U.S. oil and gas inventories this week

Inventories come from EIA's weekly petroleum report (Wednesdays) and natural gas storage report (Thursdays), each compared with the same week in the prior five years.

Crude oil stocks against the five-year range

U.S. commercial crude oil stocks, excluding the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

Natural gas in storage against the five-year range

Working gas in underground storage, Lower 48 states.

Spot prices over the past year

Daily spot prices for crude oil and natural gas.

How these numbers are built

Inventory figures are EIA's weekly estimates: commercial crude oil stocks exclude the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and natural gas storage is working gas in the Lower 48. The shaded band is the highest and lowest reading for each ISO week across the five prior calendar years, and the dashed line is their average.

Spot prices are the daily series published in EIA's open data API. EIA sources these from third-party price reporters, and other EIA products can show slightly different values for the same day, so treat them as reference prices rather than settlement prices. Physical spot prices can also sit well above or below the front-month futures prices quoted in the news, especially during supply disruptions.
